WE COULD HAVE BUILT A PRACTICE AROUND HOW MANY PEOPLE WE COULD SEE.
WE CHOSE TO BUILD ONE AROUND HOW DEEPLY WE COULD KNOW THEM.
THAT CHOICE BECAME AMĀAN.
THE MEANING OF AMĀAN
AMĀAN carries meaning across languages and cultures.
In Arabic, it speaks to security, reassurance, and protection. Across Urdu, Hindi, Persian, and neighboring traditions, aman is associated with peace, harmony, and freedom from conflict.
For us, AMĀAN is less about definition and more about what becomes possible when there is enough trust to be honest, enough steadiness to go deeper, and enough space for something to change.
THE AMĀAN APPROACH
We envisioned a boutique practice where therapists have the time to remember the details, think beyond the session, and bring the full value of their experience to the people who trust them.
A place where your history doesn’t disappear between appointments, and where valuable time isn’t spent bringing someone back up to speed.
We also wanted therapy to have more room to adapt to real life. Sometimes fifty minutes is exactly what you need. Sometimes an important conversation needs ninety. And sometimes a relationship deserves a day — or several — to work through something that has taken years to build.
So we built AMĀAN around the work, rather than asking the work to fit around the business.
That thinking has shaped everything: the size of the practice, the space we chose, and the experience we are creating within it. We want coming here to feel private, personal, effortless, and distinctly professional.
And as we grow, we intend to be just as particular about the clinicians who join AMĀAN as we are about every other part of the practice.
Because the people who come here are giving us things we consider incredibly valuable: their time, their trust, and parts of their lives that matter deeply to them.
A PLACE TO BEGIN
If you’re here, something probably isn’t feeling the way you want it to.
You may be feeling anxious, overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck in patterns you don’t fully understand. Maybe life looks fine from the outside, but something inside doesn’t feel right. You may love your partner deeply but keep finding yourselves in the same painful conversations. Or your family may be going through something that has changed the way you relate to one another.
Sometimes people come to therapy knowing exactly what they want help with. Other times, they simply know that something needs to be different.
You don’t have to have all of that figured out before you walk through the door. That’s part of the work we’ll do together.
I want to understand the whole picture — not only what is happening now, but what has shaped you, what keeps repeating, and why.
I’m very engaged in the room. I’ll listen closely, but I won’t only listen. I’ll ask questions, make connections, notice patterns, offer perspective, and give you things you can use beyond our sessions. I may challenge you when I think it will help, and I’ll tell you what I’m seeing rather than leave you wondering what I’m thinking.
-
I tend to work through a relational lens. The ways we protect ourselves, respond to conflict, become anxious, shut down, keep people at a distance, or work hard to keep everyone happy rarely appear out of nowhere. Often, these patterns made sense somewhere along the way. We’ll understand where they came from without assuming they still need to shape what happens next.
-
I often think of part of my role as being a translator. Two people can love each other deeply and still reach a point where neither feels heard. I help you move beneath the anger, defensiveness, silence, or frustration to understand what is actually being communicated — and to express what you need in a way your partner has a better chance of hearing.
-
With families, I’m less interested in deciding who the problem is and more interested in understanding what is happening between you. Families can become caught in patterns where everyone is reacting to everyone else. We slow that down, make sense of it, and begin changing the way you relate to one another.
