COUPLES THERAPY

You can love each other and still struggle to understand one another.

Maybe you keep having the same argument, just about different things. Maybe one of you wants to talk while the other shuts down. Or perhaps something has happened in your relationship that has made it difficult to feel close, safe, or understood.

Sometimes the problem isn't that you don't care about each other. It's that you've become stuck in ways of relating that aren't working anymore.

Couples come to us for many reasons, including, but not limited to:

  • Recurring conflict and communication difficulties

  • Infidelity, betrayal, and broken trust

  • Emotional disconnection and intimacy concerns

  • Unresolved hurt and resentment

  • Parenting disagreements and family stress

  • Differences in needs, expectations, and values

  • Major life transitions

  • Uncertainty about the future of the relationship

  • Strengthening an already healthy relationship

WHAT CAN COUPLES THERAPY HELP WITH?

HOW WE WORK

At AMĀAN, couples therapy goes beyond teaching you how to communicate better.

We want to understand what happens between you, why certain conversations become so difficult, and what each of you may be experiencing underneath the frustration, defensiveness, or silence.

The work involves recognizing patterns, understanding each other's experiences, and practicing having difficult conversations differently.

We'll also pay attention to accountability. Sometimes one partner's behavior has caused significant harm, and meaningful repair requires acknowledging that rather than treating every problem as equally shared.

The goal isn't simply to argue less.

It's to understand what keeps happening between you and begin creating something different.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN COUPLES THERAPY

We'll start by getting to know your relationship, including your history, what's working, what's been difficult, and what each of you hopes will change.

From there, we won't just talk about the problems. We'll pay attention to how they show up between you, sometimes right there in the room.

We may slow down a difficult conversation, help you understand what your partner is trying to communicate, challenge patterns that aren't serving your relationship, or practice a different way of responding.

Some sessions may involve difficult conversations. Others may focus on rebuilding connection, repairing hurt, or strengthening what's already working.

Our goal is for the work we do together to make a difference in your relationship outside the therapy room, too.

OUR APPROACH

Couples therapy draws from established therapeutic approaches, including the Gottman Method, Relational Life Therapy (RLT), and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).

Rather than taking every couple through the same process, we use our training and experience to understand your relationship and determine where our work will be most helpful.

Session Options

50-Minute Couples Therapy: $200

90-Minute Extended Session: $300

For couples who need more dedicated time, AMĀAN also offers two- and three-day Couples Intensives.

In-person sessions are available in Newtown, Pennsylvania, with virtual therapy available throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware.
