FAMILY THERAPY

When something affects one person in a family, it rarely affects only that person.

Families are complicated. You can care deeply about one another and still struggle to communicate, understand each other's needs, or navigate changes in your relationships.

Sometimes the same arguments keep happening. Sometimes everyone seems to be walking on eggshells. And sometimes a family has been through something difficult and hasn't quite figured out how to move forward together.

Family therapy gives us room to understand what's happening between you, rather than focusing on who is causing the problem.

WHAT CAN FAMILY THERAPY HELP WITH?

Families come to therapy for many reasons, including, but not limited to:

  • Parent-child relationship difficulties

  • Conflict between family members

  • Communication breakdowns and misunderstandings

  • Family transitions, separation, and divorce

  • Blended family adjustments

  • Grief, loss, and major life changes

  • Boundaries, roles, and expectations

  • Intergenerational patterns

  • Emotional distance and unresolved family tension

  • Changes in family relationships as children become adults

Every family has its own history, relationships, and ways of navigating difficult moments.

HOW WE WORK

At AMĀAN, family therapy is rooted in understanding relationships, not identifying one person as the problem.

We explore the roles people have taken on, the patterns that keep repeating, and the ways family members respond to one another, sometimes without even realizing it.

The work involves slowing down difficult interactions, understanding different perspectives, and recognizing what may need to change.

That doesn't mean everyone is responsible for every problem. It means paying attention to individual responsibility while also understanding the larger family dynamic.

Our goal is to help family members relate to one another with greater understanding, clearer boundaries, and healthier ways of navigating differences.

WHAT TO EXPECT

We'll begin by meeting together as a family to understand what's bringing you in, hear everyone's concerns, and learn more about your family history and relationships.

After our initial meeting, we may recommend spending some time with family members individually. This gives everyone an opportunity to share their perspective and helps us better understand the family as a whole.

From there, we'll come back together, share what we've learned, identify patterns that may be contributing to difficulties, and develop a plan for our work.

As therapy continues, we'll focus on the areas that need attention. This may include working through unresolved conflicts, improving communication, establishing healthier boundaries, understanding family roles, and practicing different ways of responding to one another.

We'll check in on your progress along the way and adjust our approach as needed.

The goal isn't to change one person. It's to help your family understand what's happening between you and find healthier ways of moving forward.

READY TO WORK ON YOUR RELATIONSHIP?

You don't need everyone to agree on what's happening or know exactly where to begin.

Tell us a little about your family and what you're hoping to address. We'll help you determine whether family therapy is the right place to start.
